I left my comment and then went and read all the other comments. It was going good until I read the handful of commenters that disagreed. I still don't feel badly about laughing, but now I wonder if she just couldn't take the time off and that is why she kept bringing the kid to daycare. At the same time, that makes no excuse for any parent to drop their sick kid off. What should have happened is the daycare should have stepped in and required a note from the kid's pediatrician saying it was anything but something contagious before the kid was allowed back at school. Even if you consider the mother might not have insurance or can't afford a doctor, there are free clinics she could have attended. It would have been a major pain in the butt, except you've got to do what you've got to do in these situations (I've been there myself).

first of all, impetigo sucks and i'm sorry your kiddo got it; i hope it doesn't get severe. i have to say, though, that you came down on that mother pretty hard. what if the doctor DID tell her it wasn't impetigo? impetigo has a bunch of different appearances, and if her doctor said it wasn't impetigo and she had never seen it before, how would she know he was wrong?

as for the haters, i can't help but notice that every one of you took time out of busy days (either at home or at a job where you can get on the internet) to slam another mother.

what makes you so effing perfect that you can hammer down on someone else whose situation you know nothing about? what if she can't afford to take a day off? what if she has no family around to watch her kid? what if she honestly thought it was eczema? what if, what if, what if?

just sayin.

I can not understand why people do not get it about keeping their kids away from others when they are sick. It makes no sense to me at all. For everyone's sake, keep them home until they feel better and are not contagious anymore.

Yes, people with sick kids should keep them at home. Some folks dont have the option. Maybe she's a single mother and doesn't have alternative day care options. Maybe she'll lose her job if she misses any more work. Sometimes there just isn't an option. It sucks, but it's a very real problem. I'm not saying it's fine for her to bring a sick kid to school, but a little empathy wouldn't go amiss.

That's the worst thing we've encountered in preschool...and the most annoying...It only takes one or two parents who consistently send their children in sick to infect alot of others...We all know these parents exist; my question is why doesn't the school do something about it? In my opinion parents should be called to take their children home when they're lethargic, clearly feverish, rash-covered or just not feeling well. Yuck! They have other kids to think of--mine.

Thanks terrible! Last year my daughter got lice...and I can promise you she got them from school, but when I alerted the school to the fact, they made it sound like it was her.
