I am linking my Letters of Intent up today with Mama's Losin' It. I just so happen to have already done one of her assignments for her Writing Workshop. If you have a letter you need to write to a person, place, thing, or idea feel free to come back on Friday and link up with me. I love reading your letters!
First, it gives me great joy to let you know that my friend who had the brain aneurysm is home with her family and was able to celebrate Thanksgiving with them yesterday. Thank you to everyone for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

Does gathering together with family for the holiday make your blood boil? Did the black sheep of your family confirm exactly why they're the black sheep? Did the over-crowded grocery store aisles tempt you to go postal on anyone who crossed your path? Was this the best Thanksgiving ever? Well tell us about it...in letter form that is. Let us know what happened this week by writing a letter to the person, place, thing, or idea that that sent you over the edge or that turned this week into an episode of VH1's Best Week Ever.
Grab my button from the left sidebar and link up at the bottom of this post. I look forward to your Letters of Intent!

Dear Santa Claus,
Now that Thanksgiving is officially over, Christmas season has begun (not that my kids haven't been mentally writing their wish lists for months now.) Every year you turn my kids into greedy little heathens who want every single thing they see on a TV commercial. And because of your cute little story about being jolly with a big belly my kids have fallen for your lies hook, line, and sinker. So when they bring me their Christmas lists that they have been working on since last March, all of my careful budgeting during a fallen economy is blown to bits. You see Santa, it does me no good to tell them how expensive their lists are. Their retort is that Santa doesn't buy anything- your elves make it. Please Santa, I am begging you, it is time to stop this whole charade and tell my kids the truth. Tell them that it is their wonderful mother who loves them dearly that makes Christmas a morning they look forward to all year long. This would at least give me the opportunity to explain the fundamentals of a fallen economy to them.

Sincerely,
The mother who desperately wants Christmas to return to a manger when the only entertainment was a few bales of hay, some twinkling stars, and the most important thing in life was about someone not something..

24 Validations To Make Me Feel Worthy:
So happy that your friend was able to spend Thanksgiving with her family!
I'm with ya on the commercialism of Christmas. My 4 year old's list is insanely long. And NO, he will not be getting all those things. Even in Santa's magic sleigh, there simply isn't enough room. He has to have room for toys for other kids, too.
I REALLY have a letter I want to write about something that happened today, but I'm debating it, as this week is stressful enough, without the comment war that would most likely ensue from it.
SERIOUSLY.
Agreed.
Although, by force of habit the other day, I told my 12 year old to "ask Santa". I really should have used Santa the other way from the beginning ... like to get her shitty and really cheap gifts. She wouldn't have been able to blame me because it was Santa who brought them ...
Amen to that, Sister!
I am so happy to hear about your friend! That is such wonderful, wonderful news!
Yay for your friend! That is awesome! :)
Now, it's not really Santa's fault. ;) I blame the evil toy companies... ya know, Santa's competition. My boys get one or two really cool things from Santa (which he leaves under the tree unwrapped). The rest of the crap comes from mom and dad. Don't hate on the old elf. I'm sure he detests all the commercialism as well! :)
AMEN!!!! I'm glad your friend was able to be with her family for Thanksgiving.
Oh, I totally agree. Thankfully the boys are still pretty young yet, and we remind Buddy ALL THE TIME that Santa can't grant every wish. We have even also told him that Santa has a "budget" too. Only so much per child.
ooohhh! I got the same "santa makes it, he doesn't have to buy it" line just the other day. The kiddos are getting too smart for me!
I totally agree with you. The little ones aren't quite as greedy as Sassy. Bo asked if we could buy a bd present for Baby Jesus. But as for the money thing, I tell my kids that the parents have to give Santa the money. Which also explains why we buy Christmas for the needy.
First of all, I'm SO happy to read the good news about both Jakob and your friend!! Any good news is precious, especially this time of year. About Santa, I sometimes also wish that I could just go ahead and take the credit for Christmas morning - and I fear what it will be like when tender-hearted Riley finds out the truth. But then I remember how much I loved Santa, and I leave things as they are. If my boys ever complain about Santa's meager offerings, I have my answer ready - Santa knows they have a big family that loves to give them lots of presents, so he needs to leave some things for everybody else to give them. :)
I'm so happy your friend was able to recover and spend Thanksgiving with her family....i can't even imagine.
I love your letter of intent! My kids are older and they still think they are completely deserving at christmas time and turn into greedy heathens. They've actually said over the years after the gifts have all been opened and my husband and I are bankrupt "Is that all?" grrrrrr lol
I'm taking your button and following you. :)
Amen to that girl, for your letter to Santa (totally agree) and of course that your friend was able to be home for Thanksgiving!!!
Ditto to your letter. So glad to hear the good news about your friend.
You mean the C in Christmas doesn't stand for Crass Commercialism? You mean my mommie lie to me all those years? Dang.
Great letter! I'm glad mine are still a little to young to want everything they see...though my oldest is getting there fast! We minimize the Christmas wants by only getting 3 gifts from Santa each year...for the 3 gifts that Baby Jesus got on his birthday!
i told my kid this year that santa only has room in his sleigh for ONE present per kid, because there are so many kids in the world. thank goodness be bought it!
Love the letter.
My son also turns greedy and is all, "I want this and this and this," and I have to remind him that he can't have it all.
That is great! I"m glad my kids aren't there yet. When I asked Melody what she wanted from Santa she said a cupcake and a drink. Should be easy enough...
Yes its a bit commercialised nowawdays, but I love Xmas, and all that it involves. But we are trying to be good this year, because we are trying to build our house and get out of the shed, so saving money is important. Saying that, I will spoil them as I always do....I can't help myself!
I couldn't have said it better myself!
oh girl!~ I hear you!
(wifemomnurse)
Julie - you're awesome!!!
I am happy to hear that your friend is at home and was able to spend Thanksgiving with her family!
I love your letter and I agree with you. I do love that they get all excited for Santa but it will a lot easier when they really know.
My kids also NEED every toy they see on every commercial!
So heartwarming to know that your friend is home!
